If anyone knows how to spot trends, it’s Justin Welsh.

He’s just previewed his 2024 plans and there’s a word that caught my eye: “micropreneur” (open the image and see the very end of his snapshot).

Here’s why this matters, since micropreneurship is something I pivoted into at the end of 2022.

A “micropreneur” is a 1 to 10-person business that can generate a living. This isn’t easy, but it’s very doable. Micropreneurs are often underestimated as “hobbyists” or “side hustlers.” But there’s more to them than that. You can learn more about them here.

Micropreneurs:

→ Maximize Skills
→ Minimize Costs
→ Build an Audience
→ Sell Directly
→ Repeat

You become a specialist, but one whose entire business is built on your unique skills and personality.

Control & Ownership

Micropreneurs also maximize control and ownership. There are no investors or gatekeepers. You create, build, and own everything.

In a world where businesses are often owned by VCs and shareholders, this is important.

Micropreneurship is the perfect marriage between creating something for yourself and having control over your work. But, it requires persistence and patience. It takes time to build a sustainable one-person business.

Remote Work Trend

The rise of micropreneurs also fits into the broader trend of remote work.

As people become more aware of what they want in their careers, they also value independence more.

Micropreneurship allows you to work from anywhere, all while controlling your work.

Conclusion

In summary, micropreneurship is a viable alternative to the traditional path of being an employee or starting a large-scale business. It’s a way to create a living, control your work, and maximize your unique skills. The rise of micropreneurs is something to keep an eye on.
